She started her career as a Television Reporter but then she started receiving offers for modeling. Then she started working as a model. In 2006, she won the title of the Miss Universe Sri Lanka pageant and represented Sri Lanka at the world Miss Universe 2006 pageant held in Los Angeles. In the following year, she was seen in a music video titled “O Sathi”.
In 2009, she auditioned for a fantasy drama “Aladin”, in which she was selected and acted in it and won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year. In 2010, Fernandez appeared n the science fiction romantic comedy film Jaane Kahn se Aayi Hai as girl from Venus, who lands on Earth in search of love.
